Background

Phospholipids are the building blocks of all cell and mitochondrial membranes. The main Phospholipid is Phosphatidyl-Choline (PC). Other Phospholipids are Phosphatidyl-Ethanolamine and Phopshatidyl-Inositol. All three of these phospholipids are present in this product.

Phospholipids form the cell membrane, like a protective skin around the contents of the cell. Aside from being protective, the cell membrane is vital for cell communication between with other cells and the environment. Neurotransmitters and hormones bind to receptors in the membrane conveying messages. In the brain, the nerve cells’ membranes carry all of the messages between nerve cells, helping us form thoughts, movement and reflexes.

Mitochondria have their own membranes. The mitochondrial membranes are key to life itself because they houses the space for the production of cellular energy in the form of ATP. This process is called “oxidative phosphorylation” and relies upon developing an effective gradient of protons across a double mitochondrial membrane in the process of manufacturing ATP. Without an intact membrane, the process of energy production becomes ineffective leading to mitochondrial dysfunction, which is believed to be at the root of many chronic illnesses.

Roles of Phospholipids:

Phosphatidylcholine (PC): May rebuild healthy cell and mitochondrial membranes. PC serves as a rich source of Choline important in manufacturing the neurotransmitter Acetylcholine (Ach). Adequate Acetylcholine levels are critical in the brain for focus and cognition. Ach is also the main neurotransmitter for the peripheral Autonomic (unconscious) Nervous System. This system maintains proper functioning of organs such as the heart, lungs, intestinal tract and adrenals. Phosphatidylcholine has also been shown to improve plasma lipid profile (LDL /HDL) and may benefit in liver cell function in fatty liver and alcoholic liver damage.

Phosphatidyl-Inositol: Is a building block of cell membranes and plays a key role in cell messaging.

Phosphatidyl-Ethanolamine: Is a building block of cell membranes and comprises 25% of all phospholipids. It is found in high concentration in the nervous system; in the brain and spinal cord it comprises 45% of all phospholipids. It also an important membrane structure in the heart and liver where it plays a role in cholesterol metabolism (VLDL formation).

Technological Advantage:

The Phospholipids in this product are in liposomal form. Liposomes are microscopic fat-soluble spheres, resembling tiny cells. Liposomes actually resemble our own cells. In fact liposomes are made of the exact same building blocks as our own cell membranes. Phospholipids, like Phosphatidylcholine (PC), are the common building blocks of cell walls as well as our liposomes. Because of this, once Liposomal PC Complex is ingested orally, the liposomes pass through the stomach intact and then easily attach to the cell membrane of the small intestine cells where absorption of nutrients in food occurs. Once attached, liposomes then “fuse” with our own cells membranes and release additional phospholipids into the circulation. This process also serves to replenish our own cell membranes with a fresh supply of Phosphatidylcholine and other Phospholpids to strengthen cell structure. It is important to point to point out that the liposomes in this product are produced in a natural process using no added pressure, temperature or solvents so as to ensure that the phospholipid liposomes remain undistorted and non-hydroxylated.
